Full Day Kindergarten

Westland offers a full day kindergarten program.   The regular school day runs from 8:00-2:30 pm.  In addition to their academic courses, they attend Art, PE, Spanish, and Library throughout the week.

Arizona Department of Education requires that a child be 5 years old before September 1st of the school year to enter kindergarten.  Early entry may be determined by a kindergarten readiness screening if there is space and a child’s birthday is close to that September 1st cut off date.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten through 2nd grade is a time of rapid growth. Children strengthen basic skills and progress to higher-level thinking in literacy, math, science and social studies. As they become more aware of the world around them, they develop physically, build empathy, compassion and understanding for others.

Kindergarten curriculum focuses largely on mastering letters, sounds, and words. They’ll take their first steps toward reading, expanding their vocabulary, writing the letters of the alphabet, their name, and sight words.  Kindergartners will also learn key fundamentals of math. By the end of the year, they should be able to count to 50, recognize common shapes, and complete basic single-digit addition.
